 Spatial awareness is the ability to understand the relationships between objects  and one's body within a space. It encompasses the perception of  one's body's position in relation to surroundings, objects, and other  people. It's crucial for various activities, including navigating,  playing sports, dressing, and interacting socially.  

Spatial Awareness and Memory Building Skills

 Key aspects of spatial awareness:              

  • Perception of body in space:Understanding where one's body is in relation to other objects and people.        


  • Spatial relationships: Recognizing the position, orientation, and distance between objects and oneself.        


  •  Propriocetion: The  sense of where body parts are in space, even without looking at them.        


  • Visual-spatial skills: Utilizing visual information to understand and interact with space.        

 Importance of spatial awareness:               

  • Everyday life: Walking, playing sports, dressing, and organizing belongings all require spatial awareness.        


  • Social interactions: Understanding personal space, social cues, and body language.        


  • Cognitive development: Spatial awareness is linked to mathematics, reading, and problem-solving skills.        


  • Motor skills: Accurate movements and coordination are dependent on spatial awareness.        

 Activities to develop spatial awareness:               

  • Physical activities: Obstacle courses, sports, and dance. 


  • Games: Puzzles, board games, and video games. 


  • Creative activities: Building, drawing, and crafts. 


  • Everyday tasks: Organizing spaces, following directions, and navigating.
